Manchester United must stick with Mauricio Pochettino plan but block proposed first signing

Few things seem certain right now at Manchester United, but there would appear to be an increasing likelihood that the next managerial appointment is going to be one of Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag.

Fans are split between the two managers and while Ten Hag would be my personal choice as United's next long-term managerial appointment, Pochettino's credentials for the role should not be ignored.

It looks increasingly likely that Pochettino isn't going to extend his stay at PSG beyond this season, leaving the door open for a move to Old Trafford with current incumbent Ralf Rangnick poised to move into a consultancy role at the end of this season.

Should Pochettino arrive, he's going to be tasked with overseeing one of the most important rebuilds in the history of the club and fans will expect to finally see progress being made following the desperately disappointing nine years United have suffered since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Pochettino has already proven he can repair disjointed squads and if United believe he is the man to restore the club's glory days, they should be proactive in pursuing him.

It's expected that United will make numerous additions in the summer, whoever the incoming manager is and MEN Sport reported in January that up to four new additions could arrive during the close season.

One area where United are expected to strengthen is in the forward line. Edinson Cavani will almost certainly depart when his contract expires at the end of the season and Cristiano Ronaldo is now at an age where he can't be relied upon week in, week out.
