Manchester United must not make same mistake with potential replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United scouted 804 right backs before they settled on Aaron Wan-Bissaka. That is a statement that is used often to criticise the scouting process which has plagued them for many years and resulted in them signing a right-back who has not transitioned well into a possession system.
The problem is United scouts have mainly focused on the most obvious signings, as Wan-Bissaka was highly rated within the Premier League for Crystal Palace. And they also sign players with no clear plan in mind; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was playing a counter-attacking system originally but when they were looking to improve and challenge for trophies the team moved to a more possession-based system, and the right-back struggled.
United have now confirmed that Erik ten Hag will be the club's next permanent manager and with his appointment, a new project will begin. And now fans are beginning to ask which players will survive, with Wan-Bissaka near the top of the list.

But he may have a lifeline. The Athletic has reported that Crystal Palace are interested in bringing Wan-Bissaka back to his former club in summer, with a temporary deal being preferred rather than a permanent switch.
United would likely prefer for Wan-Bissaka to leave on a permanent deal, as the Manchester Evening News has previously reported that they are interested in bringing in another right-back in the summer and have a surplus of players at the full-back position. Securing a fee would help United fund their rebuild under Ten Hag as well.
