Manchester United must consider shock viral video with potential Ivan Toney transfer

Manchester United want a new striker this summer and Ivan Toney has been linked.

Toney has a proven record of scoring goals in the Premier League, he's a talented forward and seems ready for a move to a bigger club, but there is a grey area that cannot be ignored.

The 28-year-old doesn't seem to have the character required for a transfer to Old Trafford. He possesses the required confidence and ability, but there are doubts about whether he'd be a good addition to the dressing room after an incident in Dubai in the January of 2022.

Toney was on holiday during the winter break and said "f*** Brentford" on a woman's story on Instagram, a short video which subsequently went viral across social media.

After the footage had gained thousands of views, Toney released a statement and apologised. “I am aware of a video that was published on social media," he said. "In it I used unacceptable language. The video was cut short and edited, but I have to accept the impact this has had.

"I realise I should not have put myself in that position. I have explained to the gaffer what happened and apologised to him but I also want to apologise to all Brentford fans.

"I respect the way you all support the team and I have to say how much I love playing for the club and for you. I’ll be back at training next week, working hard to score more goals to win us more games for the rest of the season.”

Toney disrespected Brentford and the club's supporters in just two words. He took responsibility for his actions and apologised but it left question marks around his character.
