Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag delivers glowing verdict on goalkeeper David de Gea

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has waxed lyrical about goalkeeper David de Gea ahead of tonight's Europa League quarter-final second-leg against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The Spaniard, who joined United back in 2011, has played a key role in the success the club has so far enjoyed this season, recording a very impressive 21 clean sheets in all competitions. Sunday's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest saw him collect his 14th in the Premier League this season, moving him to the front of the race for the Golden Glove ahead of Newcastle United's Nick Pope.

Despite concerns often being expressed about De Gea's ability with the ball at his feet, he continues to make key contributions between the sticks, with his shot-stopping ability rarely questioned. He is one of the finest shot-stopper's in the business, highlighted by his clean sheet tally this season.

Out-of-contract at the end of the season, United are still in talks with the former Atletico Madrid ace to tie him down to a new deal, although there is a general feeling that the club will need to invest in a new goalkeeper to suit Ten Hag's style of play in the long-term. However, the United boss has thrown his support behind De Gea, describing him as 'multifunctional'.
