Manchester United make Premier League comeback history with 2-1 win against Everton

Manchester United made Premier League history by beating Everton after conceding first on Sunday evening.

Everton had conceded the fewest goals (seven) in the Premier League ahead of welcoming United to Goodison Park and the fixture promised to be far from straightforward, with Frank Lampard's side making progress in recent weeks.

United were quickly made aware of that challenge when Alex Iwobi scored within just five minutes, but they responded well to that early setback with goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo, which ensured a one-goal advantage at half-time.

United eventually defeated Everton 2-1 in the match, despite some pressure from the hosts in the latter stages of the contest. Premier League wins after conceding the first goal

United were comeback specialists during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign and that has undoubtedly contributed to the Premier League record, while the Reds also made a regular habit of conceding first and winning during Ole Gunnar Solskjare's reign.

Incredibly, 10 of United’s 21 league wins with Solskjaer in charge in 2020/21 were secured after conceding first.
