Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand trolls Jamie Carragher again after Cristiano Ronaldo goal

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand couldn't resist a cheeky jibe at ex-Liverpool man Jamie Carragher after Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal in the Reds' win at Everton.

Erik ten Hag's side came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over the Toffees at Goodison Park, with Antony and Ronaldo both getting on the scoresheet in the first period. The home side had taken the lead through Alex Iwobi in the fifth-minute, but United responded well and fought back into the game.

Antony levelled proceedings in the 15th minute before Ronaldo - who came off the bench to replace the injured Martial - scored the winner just before the half-time break.

Ronaldo has only started four games for Ten Hag's men so far this term, with the 37-year-old having to settle for a place among the substitutes in the majority of the Reds' Premier League matches. The Portuguese international was keen on a move away from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.

United's decision to keep hold of the veteran frontman sparked debate between former players and pundits, with several people suggesting that the club should have sold the Real Madrid legend. Former Liverpool defender Carragher has gone back-and-fourth with United great Ferdinand in recent weeks, with the former claiming that Ferdinand was simply protecting his ex-teammate.

Speaking after the game during BT Sport's post-match analysis, Ferdinand joked that he would chat to Ronaldo in their WhatsApp group to congratulate him on his milestone.
