Manchester United make double transfer decision as talks held after £65m deal
Manchester United have reportedly prioritised signing a new goalkeeper next year, despite bringing in Senne Lammens during the transfer window.
Lammens completed the move from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day for £18.2million, plus add-ons. The 23-year-old made the bench for the Manchester derby and head coach Ruben Amorim said he does not have a number one goalkeeper.
"No, nobody has a place that is his place," he replied when asked if Altay Bayindir was his new number one following Andre Onana's loan move to Trabzonspor. "Everyone has to fight. Everyone is fighting for a place. I'm just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game."
So far, Bayindir has started every Premier League match but has yet to fully convince. Before signing Lammens, United had reportedly reached personal terms with World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa, but ultimately chose to bring in the Belgian goalkeeper.
The Sun now reports that signing a top goalkeeper has become a priority for United. One of the players mentioned in the report is AC Milan's Mike Maignan, whose contract expires next year.
Chelsea tried to sign him in the summer and reportedly made a £12million bid, which fell short of Milan's £21million valuation. The United hierarchy have recently held conversations with Maignan's representatives, as £65million summer signing Bryan Mbeumo is also among their clients.
In addition to a goalkeeper, the Reds also plan to invest heavily in at least one midfielder. Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion has been identified as a potential target, with Casemiro's contract set to expire next year.
