Lee Bowyer says any thoughts Birmingham City might have about trying to keep Lyle Taylor beyond the end of the season will be left until the summer.
The striker arrived on loan from Nottingham Forest in the final week of the transfer window and has started impressively with two goals in his first two games.
He might also have had a couple of assists and after initial scepticism has added an extra dimension to Blues ’ front-line.
“He couldn’t have done much more with the chances he has had - he has had three and scored two. I think he has been very good since he has been here,” Bowyer said.
“He has given the place a lift and shown the reason why I wanted to bring him here.
“He is a good lad, a good character, he will have a laugh and a joke like most players but when it’s the right time to do that.
“And when you step on to the pitch, whether it’s training or match day, then he switches on, he becomes the professional you see in matches.
“He has brought a lot - and for other players to see him, the goals you have seen him score, we are seeing it every day in training.
“He has upped the ante with the strikers. ‘Look, for me to get in the side I have got to do this’. He has definitely improved us with more competition to places.”
Birmingham City take the long midweek trip to Bournemouth on Wednesday to face a side raw from FA Cup humiliation at the hands of non-league opposition.
Except that they won’t face that side at all as Cherries boss Scott Parker will probably make nine or 10 changes to the XI which lost to Boreham Wood - rendering the tie fairly meaningless in terms of its use to Lee Bowyer.
