Manchester United loanee Ethan Laird wins QPR award as praise continues

Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird was awarded QPR's official Man of the Match award after his performance in Saturday's goalless draw with Stoke City at Loftus Road.

The youngster, who spent time on loan at both Bournemouth and Swansea City last season, has been a revelation since joining the Londoners on a season-long loan deal last month. He has become an immediate hit with the fans and his performances have offered no shortage of promise.

The goalless draw with the Potters, which extended QPR's unbeaten run to two matches, was Laird's seventh consecutive start for Michael Beale's side, highlighting that he has quickly nailed down the right-back berth and made it his own. He has frequently been showered with praise by the fans and they have warmed to him instantly.

The 21-year-old, who has so far scored one goal for the Hoops, was a regular threat down the right-flank against Stoke, with QPR's system placing an emphasis on the two full-backs to get forward and support the attackers. QPR, at the top end of the pitch, play with a very narrow system, meaning there is an onus on Laird to get forward and support the play.

And although both goalkeepers played their part in ensuring the game finished goalless, it was Laird that scooped QPR's Man of the Match accolade. The general perception among QPR's supporters after the game was that Laird was a worthy winner of the gong, praising his latest showing.

Last month, after scoring his first goal in senior football, Beale hailed Laird, insisting that there is more to come from the United loanee.
