Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek looking to prove people wrong during Everton spell

Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek says he's hoping to prove people wrong while at Everton this season.

Van de Beek joined the Merseyside club in January after finding playing time limited at Old Trafford. The Dutch midfielder made just eight appearances in the first half of the campaign.

In the little time he has spent at the Toffees, Van de Beek has made four appearances and has managed to impress the Evertonians and his new manager Frank Lampard. Speaking to the club's official website, the 24-year-old explained his motivation behind performing well.

He said: "Yes [I want to play well], but I also want that for the people around me. If I play well, I do it for them: my girlfriend, my family and friends.

"I want to give them pleasure. And also the fans of Everton of course. In addition, I do it for myself."

"Of course I am sometimes disappointed and frustrated," he added. "But I always try to stay positive and I believe that one day it will change.

"I want to show some people that they are wrong and that I have the qualities to play. That is always my goal."

Manchester Evening News understands that Van de Beek was becoming increasingly upset with his playing time at the Theatre of Dreams. This would ultimately lead to his temporary move on deadline day.

Van de Beek will not feature this evening for Everton in their FA Cup tie against Boreham Wood. The Dutchman is cup-tied having already featured in the competition for Manchester United this season.
