Manchester United loanee Amad opens up on the racist abuse he has suffered

Manchester United loanee Amad has revealed he has suffered racist abuse.

The United youngster was handed a rare start for Rangers in their 3-1 win over Motherwell on Saturday. The game provided Amad with his first league start since the 3-0 defeat to Celtic in February.

Although Rangers boosted their hopes of catching their Old Firm rivals in the title race with a victory, the afternoon didn’t quite go to plan for the 19-year-old. Amad made way just 30 minutes into the game as Giovanni van Bronckhorst was forced into a tactical change following Leon Balogun’s early red card.

Nevertheless, the teenager’s inclusion will have provided a timely boost amid what has been a tough time for him in Glasgow. Having completed his loan move in January, Amad made the perfect start to his spell with Rangers, scoring just five minutes into his debut against Ross County.

Since then he has fallen down the pecking order and has found appearances hard to come by. The former Atalanta youngster has made just eight appearances across all competitions for Rangers, including just four starts.

Posting on social media after the win at Motherwell, Amad revealed he has received racist abuse. “I always look on the bright side,” he wrote. “I get racist insults, they insult my mother but as a practicing Muslim I was raised differently and my education is to respect everyone. Thanks to those who make me feel important a hug to you and happy Sunday.”
