Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar moved to Dutch hospital

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has been moved to a Dutch hospital as he continues to recover from a brain haemorrhage.

Van der Sar was admitted to hospital last week whilst on holiday with his family in Croatia and his wife, Annemarie, later shared that he was not in 'life-threatening danger' and was in a stable condition.

The former goalkeeper has now been moved closer to home, but he remains in intensive care as he continues his recovery.

In a statement released by Ajax, Van der Sar's wife shared the latest update on his condition on Saturday morning and said: "His situation remains the same: stable, in a non-life-threatening condition and communicative.

"The Van der Sar family would like to express their deep gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for their great care during the last week.

"Edwin has to remain in the intensive care unit where he will be investigated further, and the family fervently hope he can focus on his recovery afterwards."

His former teammate Rio Ferdinand sent a new message of support following Annemarie's latest update.

Van der Sar made 266 appearances for United between 2005 and 2011, winning several major honours including four Premier League titles and the Champions League.

The 52-year-old was Ajax's chief executive until leaving that position two months ago.
