Manchester United issue update on Europa League tie vs Sheriff Tiraspol after Premier League games postponed

Manchester United will travel to Moldova on Thursday for their Europa League showdown with Sheriff Tiraspol.

After finishing sixth in the Premier League standings last term and missing out on Champions League qualification, United had to settle for a place in the supplementary European competition and got their Group E push underway against Real Sociedad on Thursday night. However, that fixture ended in a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Next up for Erik ten Hag and his revamped United squad is a midweek trip to Moldova for a 5.45pm kick-off. There had been doubts over the match after the Premier League - and Football League - decided to postpone all games this weekend after Queen Elizabeth II passed away, aged 96, on Thursday, at her Balmoral estate in Scotland.

Under guidance from the relative authorities, United vs Sociedad went ahead with changes to the usual pre and post-match coverage. Heading into next week, though, it will be business as usual for Ten Hag and his United men at least on the European stage after it was confirmed the game against FC Sheriff will go ahead as planned.

The club have now confirmed that the game will definitely go ahead and that match arrangements will remain the same as already planned.

A statement on the MUFC website read: "Following discussions with the relevant governing bodies and in line with guidance issued by the UK Government, we can confirm our UEFA Europa League fixture against FC Sheriff will take place as scheduled on Thursday evening in Moldova.

"Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are traveling to support the team in Chisinau."
