Manchester United icon David Beckham snubbed as King's New Year's Honours revealed

David Beckham has once again missed out on a knighthood in the King's New Year's Honours.

Beckham, who won six Premier Leagues, a Champions League, La Liga and captained England, was made an OBE back in 2003 when The Queen released her Birthday Honours that year. Since then, the 49-year-old has continued to be snubbed for a grander title - despite his sporting achievements at Manchester United and beyond.

Knighthoods have been handed out to other sportspeople in the past with the likes of Alex Ferguson, Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton receiving the honour for their services to sport. However, Beckham has consistently missed out and that record has continued as we head towards 2025.

Beckham has tried to build his image with the Royal Family - often sharing the stage with Prince William at events and notably queued for more than 13 hours to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state. Speaking about this, he told the BBC: "We all want to be here together.

"We all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen, and I think something like this is meant to be shared together. This day was always going to be difficult, and it's difficult for the nation, and it's difficult for everyone around the world, because I think everyone is feeling it - and our thoughts are with the family and obviously with everybody here today.

"I thought by coming at 2am it was going to be a little bit quieter - I was wrong."
