Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to fulfil 'couple of weeks' promise made last month

Cristiano Ronaldo netted his first goal of the season in Manchester United’s 2-0 Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol in his third start of the campaign.

His other five appearances have come from the substitute’s bench as he gets used to not being the first-choice pick at a club for the first time in his career. It could be argued that his three starts have only come about as a result of injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Ronaldo is considered behind Rashford in the pecking order, Erik ten Hag being rewarded for his choice with three goals in four games from the Englishman, all coming against top six rivals Liverpool and Arsenal.

The 37-year-old seems to be viewed as a bit-part player by Ten Hag, something Ronaldo won’t like after a career at the highest level. He wanted to leave the club over the summer, one reason for this being his view that United are very unlikely to win silverware this season.

Ultimately, with few options elsewhere open to him, Ronaldo was denied his exit wish and will stay at United until at least January.

Amid a sea of speculation ahead of deadline day last month, Ronaldo said he had been taking notes of what had been said and written about him during the transfer window and vowed to reveal all.

Reacting to a post from journalist and friend Edu Aguirre on August 18, he said: "They know the truth when they interview in a couple of weeks.

"The media is telling lies. I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only five were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip."
