Manchester United hold Andreas Pereira transfer talks as Flamengo look to bring down price

Flamengo chiefs have confirmed they are meeting with Manchester United today as they look to sign Andreas Pereira permanently.

The midfielder has been on loan to the Brazilian side since the start of the season, and is set to remain in South America until the summer, when Flamengo will have the chance to make the deal permanent.

The deal involves a £17million option, although the Rio de Janeiro side are eager to get that price down.

Reports in Brazil have suggested Flamengo submitted an offer of around £6.8m, which United have not responded to, leading to the club’s officials heading over to England for negotiations.

Vice-president Marcos Braz confirmed they were flying over to hold talks with United as they look to try and get a deal done for Pereira as soon as possible.

“Let’s try to buy the player and sit on the negotiation. We can’t wait until the end to find out what will happen. Let’s understand what the English want and hope that everything works out.

“I believe that on Friday we will have a meeting. It’s evident that Flamengo will not pay the fixed amount. Let’s sit at the table. They already know we won’t pay that amount.”

Pereira’s contract at United runs until 2023, although it has become clear that his future lies away from Old Trafford.
