Manchester United have seven players they no longer need - and two more on borrowed time
Manchester United have made an electric start to the transfer window.
Mathues Cunha has agreed a deal with the Reds and will join for £62.5million from Wolves while United are set to wrap up a statement move for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo in the coming days.
Those two additions add guile and goals to what was too often a blunt attack last season and they also reinforce the status of four United forwards who are surplus to requirements.
The Reds have no intention of integrating Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho back into the fold after all three spent time away on loan last term. And Alejandro Garnacho is also available with Ruben Amorim sanctioning an exit for a player who has spoken out once too often.
United would love to rake in around £150million for the quartet to help fund the summer rebuild.
The deals for Cunha and Mbeumo mean Bruno Fernandes will likely retreat to one of the central midfield positions in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 shape.
United have spoken about wanted players who can operate in a number of positions and with Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte all capable of playing in that role, there doesn't seem to be a definitive spot for Casemiro.
The Brazil international was a revelation in the Europa League last term but United don't have European football to look forward to next season and the 33-year-old's influence in the Premier League has waned.
He is also one of the club's biggest earners and is into the final 12 months of his Old Trafford contract. He is not a long term solution at United and if there is an opportunity to recoup a fee this summer then it must be taken.
A case could be made for offloading Rasmus Hojlund amid interest from Inter Milan and the striker's struggles last season
