Manchester United have one big transfer decision left to make this summer

After a slow start, Manchester United's transfer window is beginning to click into gear. The club hoped to have five new signings on board by the end of the pre-season tour and while that still looks unlikely, the squad under Erik ten Hag is beginning to take shape.

Unfortunately, Tyrell Malacia will be the only new face actually on tour in Thailand and Australia. The £12.9million left-back was United's first signing of the summer and the only one arriving in time to be in Bangkok, Melbourne and Perth with his new teammates.

Christian Eriksen has since been confirmed and Lisandro Martinez will follow early next week, but neither will travel to Australia. Frenkie de Jong has gone to the USA with Barcelona and that interminable saga is showing no signs of coming to a conclusion.

It is still likely that De Jong will be the midfield signing United make. He is Ten Hag's top target and, having spent 10 weeks trying to reach a deal with Barcelona, it is now at a stage where it would be disastrous for United if it broke down.

There might still be a few more twists and turns in that pursuit yet, but midfield and attack were always the top priorities for United this summer. There might yet be a move for a right-back, but it feels like the biggest story between now and September 1 and the closure of the window will be what United do about signing a forward.

There hasn't yet been a surprise in this window and it's been clear for a long time that De Jong is the man Ten Hag wants in midfield. What is less obvious now is what he wants to do in attack.
