Manchester United have ignored Roy Keane with James Garner transfer decision

Manchester United have seemingly ignored Roy Keane's glowing James Garner verdict after making the academy graduate available for transfer. Garner, 21, is valued between £15m-£20m as United look to cash in on the player this summer.

Having progressed through the famed Old Trafford system, Garner has made seven senior appearances for United while loan spells at Watford and Nottingham Forest aided his development. He impressed in the engine room at Forest last season as they won promotion back to the Premier League.

Garner could yet return to the City Ground after Erik ten Hag deemed him surplus to requirements. That is despite ongoing moves to strengthen in that particular position.

Keane waxed lyrical about Garner before the United playmaker and Forest got down to business with Liverpool in the FA Cup last season. It appears as though that advice slipped under the radar, however, while Keane has often criticised Fred and Scott McTominay for their performances together at United.

Speaking about Garner on ITV last season, Keane said: "He's been [in] a really good partnership with [Ryan] Yatesy, they complement each other very well, he's technically very good.

"He likes to dictate the play, sits a little bit deeper than Yates. Tough game for him today, this is a great experience for young players coming up against top players like Liverpool, great way to learn."

Speaking about United's double pivot, former captain turned pundit Keane told Sky Sports: "The decision-making and the football intelligence, in particular from Fred - and I've said this for a long time - Fred and McTominay are not good enough. They won't get Manchester United back competing at the top.
