Manchester United have decisions to make on 24 players sooner than they thought

Manchester United's squad is in need of renewal and there could be a mass exodus in the coming seasons with plenty of players coming towards the end of their contracts.

It's been yet another year of disappointment for United who will see their trophy drought extend to five seasons, after initially harbouring hopes of silverware following an exciting summer transfer window. Yet United haven't even once looked like being able to put up a fight to win the title and it now seems as though they may even struggle to finish in the top four.

Failing to qualify for next season's Champions League would have a damaging impact on United's recruitment hopes, for any new manager and players. But it's clear that improvement is needed in the squad, especially as it's going to be a lot smaller soon.

Five players' contracts are already up at the end of the current season and it looks near set in stone that Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Lee Grant will all walk away from Old Trafford for nothing in the summer. While the departures are expected and United may not miss any of them that much, it certainly depletes their attacking options. Tahith Chong's deal also expires in the summer, though the club can add a further year to it if they wish.

However, looking further down the line, there are currently another 18 players whose deals expire in the following two years and decisions will soon have to be made on their futures as well. There are some very important stars on the list, too.

Deals with Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Fred, Diogo Dalot, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones all expire in 2023,
