Manchester United have big decisions to make on 10 players this season

The season may still be in its infancy but football never stops and soon Erik ten Hag will have some more big decisions to make.

Out of the Dutchman's Manchester United squad, 10 players are currently set to see their contracts expire at the end of the campaign in the summer of 2023. United have one-year extension clauses on most of them, such as Marcus Rashford and David de Gea, so there will be no sweating over having to agree on new terms, for the time being at least.

While there's little doubt that United will take advantage of those two extensions, Ten Hag will still need to decide if he wants to trigger the same clause with other players who are perhaps not as integral to his plans. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luke Shaw, Fred and Tom Heaton have been spending a lot of time on the bench so far and might have to show their worth for an extra year.

History does suggest United will likely trigger the clauses regardless to protect their assets but with Ten Hag now in charge that might change if he wants particular names out of the door and has the authority to make it happen. Ronaldo in particular seems as though he could buck the trend after making his wish to leave the club public this past summer and seeing his minutes limited since.

Phil Jones will be released, with it being clear he has no future at the club after years spent in injury hell, while Axel Tuanzebe's future is also up in the air.

In the widget below you can vote on whether United should trigger the extension or give new terms to each of the 10 players or if they should be released next summer. MEN Sport will publish the results later in the week.
