Manchester United have bid accepted for Leny Yoro as defender makes transfer stance clear

Manchester United have had a bid accepted for Lille defender Leny Yoro.

It is understood the offer for the 18-year-old centre back is between €60million and €70m. United face competition from Real Madrid.

United are open to signing up to three centre backs as part of a drastic overhaul of their defence. The club have verbally agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt and had two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Yoro has made 60 appearances for Lille and the 6ft 3ins defender is expected to leave the club this summer.

Real Madrid are said to be Yoro’s preferred destination and talks are continuing between Lille and the European champions over a potential deal. Yoro’s contract with Lille runs out next year - forcing the Ligue 1 club’s hand this summer - and the player could dig his heels in over a move to the Bernabeu.

United have been reduced to three available centre backs for the start of pre-season training after Raphael Varane was released last month. Jonny Evans is currently a free agent, despite discussions over a contract renewal.

Lisandro Martinez is on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America and is unlikely to feature in United's pre-season schedule. United are proactively attempting to sell Victor Lindelof, who has entered the final year of his contract and no longer has the option of an additional year.

Harry Maguire is also out of contract next year but United could extend his deal until 2027. Nineteen-year-old defender Willy Kambwala appears to have received a squad number upgrade.
