Manchester United have a clone of £39m Newcastle star ready to be unleashed from academy

Manchester United fans always wonder which youngster from the academy might be the next to make their senior debut.

There have been 251 youngsters from the academy to make first-team debuts at Old Trafford and that is an extraordinary club achievement that is worth shouting about.

Toby Collyer is the most recent academy product to have made his senior bow and perhaps Ethan Ennis, who has three goals in four games this season, could be the next.

It was a big deal when United signed Ennis from Liverpool in August 2021. He scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for United's Under-18s in 2021/22, his first full season at the club, but disaster struck a year later when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee.

ACL injuries are feared by footballers and can have devastating consequences on a career, but Ennis has made a full recovery and was gradually eased back into action last season.

Last term was about Ennis finding his feet again - this season is about him finding his groove again. The 19-year-old has been in outstanding form, scoring for the U21s against Arsenal, Barnsley and Blackburn, and he's been present in first-team training sessions at Carrington.

Ennis looked sharp in friendlies against Rosenborg and Rangers this summer, coming on from the bench under the watchful eye of Erik ten Hag, and is a dynamic winger worth keeping a look out for.

He is beginning to make up for lost time after his serious knee injury and a source has said his professionalism in and out of training hasn't gone unnoticed at United.
