Manchester United got their Cristiano Ronaldo answer vs Leicester

Ever since he returned to Manchester United, there has been a fierce debate about Cristiano Ronaldo and whether or not the club were right to break their transfer policy by signing him.

At United, they always maintain that if a genuine world-class player became available, they would at least consider a move for them, given the stature of the club and their historical standing in the game.

Last summer, that was put to the ultimate test when Ronaldo became available at the 11th hour and United ignored their cultural reset to make an exception for arguably the most popular signing they could ever make.

Even from the get-go, there were many who questioned the move for Ronaldo, pointing out that despite his incredible scoring record, they were signing a veteran forward who quite simply did not fit in with the transfer strategy which United had looked to establish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While the Portuguese ace has always looked like an awkward fit in this United side, there can be no denying the impact he has made this season, netting an impressive 18 goals from 33 appearances, many of which were crucial in deciding the end result of a match.

Despite his flaws, Ronaldo's impact on the pitch has been notable throughout the campaign, yet it is United's record with him that truly highlights the key role he still has to play for the side.

United have not won any of the six Premier League matches in which Ronaldo didn't start this season, while they have won just one of the six matches in all competitions when he has been completely out of the squad as well.
