Manchester United goalkeeper leaves on loan after delivering man-of-the-match performance

Manchester United's young goalkeeper Radek Vitek has joined FC Blau-Weiß Linz on a season-long loan.

Vitek started in the opening game of pre-season against Rosenborg last month and delivered a man-of-the-match performance, making multiple impressive saves in the 1-0 defeat.

It was always the plan to send Vitek on loan again this term - he spent last season on loan with Accrington Stanley - and he will play in the Austrian topflight in 2024/25.

The 20-year-old's loan with Accrington was considered a huge success due to the experience he gained and the volume of matches he played, but Vitek will play in a higher division this season as he looks to develop again, with the hope of breaking into United's first-team in the future.

Vitek travelled on the tour of the United States this summer and he's left to pursue regular game time because United have Andre Onana, Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir in their ranks.

He stands at a towering 6ft 6ins and FC Blau-Weiß Linz's sporting director praised his ability when the loan deal was officially announced on Wednesday morning.

"With Radek, we are getting a very talented young goalkeeper who has already gained a lot of experience in England and is, among other things, part of the goalkeeping team of Manchester United's first team," said Christoph Schößwendter.
