Manchester United give updates on Anthony Martial and Casemiro plus team news vs Southampton

Anthony Martial is out of Manchester United's Premier League game at Southampton on Saturday.

Martial, who missed the first two games of the season with a hamstring strain, came on in the 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday night and has suffered an Achillies injury.

The Frenchman trained in midweek but has been ruled out of tomorrow's trip by United manager Erik ten Hag. New signing Casemiro is available to make his debut at St Mary's.

"We will see tomorrow, the manager knows but you will see tomorrow. Anthony Martial is not fit," Ten Hag said.

"He came out with a problem on his Achilles, out of the game. We have to wait, I cannot tell the prognosis, I hope he will be available for the next game.

"Casemiro is fit, yeah. He did all the training sessions, he trained individually and the last days he trained with the team."

United recorded their first win of the season and Ten Hag's reign with a rousing performance against Liverpool and will be under pressure to sustain that intensity at Southampton.

Southampton have gained four points in their last two games from losing positions and have held United to three draws on their last four visits. United's only win came from 2-0 down at half-time.

"The spirit was already good, now it is better," Ten Hag admitted. "It's clear it's one game, we have to build further on and everyone is aware of that.

"I think it helps of course, because I said before the game, Liverpool especially last year, is the best football team in the world and when you beat them it must give a lot of confidence, clear."
