Manchester United finally have the perfect player to test Roy Keane's Casemiro theory

Manchester United have given former heroes such as Roy Keane precious little to get excited about over recent years, but there are two shining lights at the end of the tunnel.

Alejandro Garnacho wowed and silenced Goodison Park with a sensational overhead kick that paved the way for victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon. He scored again in the Champions League draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday night. However, it is the emergence of another Academy starlet that really had Keane purring in the TV studio last weekend.

Renowned as a hard-nosed midfielder in his playing days, Keane needs no introduction at Old Trafford for his vast achievements in the famous red shirt. The ever-popular Irishman has been equally no nonsense since picking up the microphone and often reserves his sharper-tongued rants for his old employers.

Given the club's well-documented woes since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Keane has seldom been given reason for optimism and very few players get his seal of approval. However, the 52-year-old, and United supporters, are raving about the new kid on the block.

"Unbelievable, I don't want to get too carried away, but I'm sure we will," said Keane as he hailed teenage Kobbie Mainoo after his Premier League debut at Everton. That opening sentence pretty much said it all.

"What an all-round performance. I know the club thinks highly of him. He was outstanding and it's a great start for him. Let's hope he stays injury-free and gets a run of games, because he looked like a Manchester United-type player. Nice and brave, a lot of courage, I loved watching him."
