Manchester United final Premier League position predicted by Opta supercomputer

The Premier League season gets back underway this weekend after the final international break until March, which will be music to the ears of some fans - though others may be dreading the return of domestic football.

Manchester City lead the table with 28 points at present, though they’re followed by a chasing pack of Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa who are all within just three points of the reigning champions at the summit of the table. However, for Manchester United, it’s a slightly different tale.

Form has picked up recently with league games against Luton, Fulham and Sheffield United among the previous four fixtures. With 12 matches now having been played, Opta have released their new supercomputer predictions via the Analyst.

United's rivals City have been given an 84.3 per cent chance of winning the league, with the supercomputer giving them under 0.1 per cent chance of finishing fifth and zero per cent chance of finishing sixth. Liverpool and Arsenal are the next two teams to be tipped with a finish in the top three, both being given an 83.4 per cent and 76.2 per cent chance of doing so respectively, whilst Spurs are the slight favourites to finish in fourth - though Aston Villa are their closest competitors with 24.4 per cent and 22.2 per cent chances respectively.

United are given under a 0.1 per cent chance of winning the league. Overall there is a predicted 6.6 per cent chance of finishing in the top four and higher.
