Manchester United fans tell Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Erik ten Hag their first priority - and it's not signings

Manchester United fans have backed Erik ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to spearhead the Reds revival having given them a transfer priority.

The Reds beat Aston Villa 3-2 in the Premier League on Wednesday night, coming from two goals down to earn the three points in the first Old Trafford game since Ratcliffe’s arrival was confirmed. The deal still has to be ratified by the Premier League but Ineos sporting chief Sir Dave Brailsford was in the stands to take in the victory.

Ratcliffe and Brailsford will lead United’s sporting matters alongside former Juventus chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc. The off-field arrivals have plenty on the agenda as they seek to ensure United’s return to the top table at home and abroad.

But the Reds faithful believe in both Ratcliffe and Erik ten Hag. The Manchester Evening News conducted a survey around the Ineos arrival and both were hugely backed by the thousands who responded.

A whopping 74 per cent are happy to see Ratcliffe on board while 68 per cent want to see Ten Hag remain in the dugout.

When asked for the first priority, Ratcliffe and Ten Hag have been told to trim the squad with 66 per cent of readers feeling that is the most important aspect over the coming weeks and months. Signing new players (13 per cent), replacing the manager (11 per cent) and making improvements to Old Trafford (10 per cent) were the other results.

United have spent around £400million in the transfer market since Ten Hag was appointed but still have a number of question marks around their squad make-up. Several players face uncertain futures with United prepared to listen to January
