Manchester United fans send emphatic 'stay' message to Cristiano Ronaldo amid exit wish

The new season is on the horizon and Manchester United supporters are daring to dream again that next year might just be different under the guidance of new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman arrives at Old Trafford with an air of mystery surrounding him, given that much of his managerial success has been founded in his homeland and in a league without the level of scrutiny of the Premier League.

Yet there is still reason to be optimistic given his proven track record in the Champions League with Ajax, and it seems that has captured the imagination of United fans.

Ahead of the new season, the Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey quizzed United fans on their mood ahead of the new campaign, with 59 per cent of respondents admitting they were feeling hopeful about the team's new life under Ten Hag, with half of them saying they felt a sense of excitement as well.

Eighty-one per cent of fans backed the appointment of Ten Hag, with 19 per cent wishing someone else had been given the job. Mauricio Pochettino was the most popular alternative.
