Manchester United fans rave over Christopher Nkunku but there could be a transfer twist

Manchester United need reinforcements for their forward line. But with multiple positions being targeted, some fans would prefer the club to sign a versatile option in attack.

Edinson Cavani is leaving on a free transfer while Anthony Martial is expected to depart Old Trafford in search of first-team football. And in terms of the right-wing position, though United bought Jadon Sancho to play there last season, through the 2021/22 campaign he has proven he is much better on the left-hand side.

Multiple reports have linked United with a move for RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku, who would likely rotate with Cristiano Ronaldo for the forward position and then could also play on the right-wing in other matches under Erik ten Hag. The French forward was named the Bundlesliga Player of the Season for 2021/22 after a year that saw him score 20 goals and register 14 assists in the league.

It was hoped that United would be able to negotiate a fee that was much lower than the £85m that Benfica had asked for Darwin Nunez. After seeing his performances for RB Leipzig and France, they told the club how much they wanted the forward at Old Trafford on social media:

However, a spanner may have now been thrown in the works. German outlet BILD have reported that Nkunku is likely to sign a new contract with Leipzig, which would tie him down this summer but add a release clause that clubs could activate in 2023.

This means that Ten Hag will have to look at other alternatives this year to strengthen his attacking options. And the fans have some suggestions in mind:
