Manchester United fans give split reaction as Jesse Lingard seals Nottingham Forest move

Manchester United fans have given a divided response to Jesse Lingard being named as Nottingham Forest’s newest signing, with some wishing him luck while others are happy to see the back of him.

The playmaker left Old Trafford last month upon the expiration of his contract, ending a two-decade long association with the club after a rough few years amid limited game time. Lingard had been linked with a move to the likes of West Ham - with whom he had a terrific loan spell during the 2020/21 season - and Newcastle.

However, reports claimed that a sticking point that cropped up with both clubs was his high wage demands. But that hasn’t deterred Forest from making a move.

The 29-year-old follows goalkeeper Dean Henderson - who has joined on a season-long loan from United - to the City Ground.

The midfielder announced his arrival with a video on social media. In it he says: ‘Done deal baby - let’s go!’ with a Forest scarf around his neck.

United fans on Twitter were split into two camps; those wishing him well and those who feel like a burden has been lifted with his exit.

Some said:

@Iam_YOBENZ: Congratulations Jesse Lingard.

@EllisV3: I don’t get how any Manchester United fan could hate on Lingard. I hope he smashes it at Nottingham Forest.

@Samuel58460224: Very happy for Jesse Lingard.

@cecilk_mufc: I feel bad for Lingard in a way, United demanded stupid prices for him when West Ham and Newcastle came calling. £20million was there on a plate for Man United and instead they got nothing and wasted a year of someone’s life.

@mizodgreat: I'm so happy for Lingard. The only United player who I honestly want to excel in his career.
