Manchester United fans face M60 delays after crash causes miles of queues - latest updates

Two lanes have been closed on the M60 following a 'multi-vehicle' crash in Salford.

Manchester United fans face being stuck in delays before their first game of season, against Brighton and Hove Albion, following the collision on the anticlockwise carriageway.

The incident happened between junction 16 (A666 Manchester Road/Pendlebury) and junction 15 (M61/Swinton Interchange) at around 11.30am. There are currently delays of around 20 minutes, according to National Highways.

National Highways tweeted: "2 Lanes are closed on the #M60 anti-clockwise between J16 #Swinton and J15 (#M61) due to a collision. There are delays of about 20 minutes on the approach."

An update on traffic monitoring website Inrix reads: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on M60 anticlockwise from J16 A666 Manchester Road (Pendlebury) to J15 M61 J1 (Swinton Interchange). Congestion to J18 (Simister Island). Lanes one and two (of four) are closed."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 11.20am on Sunday, 7th August, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60, anticlockwise, between junctions 16 and 15.

“Fire engines from Agecroft, Farnworth and Blackley stations quickly attended the scene. The collision involved four vehicles. All occupants of the vehicles self-rescued before fire crews arrived at the scene. Five people were conveyed to hospital by colleagues from NWAS.

“Firefighters worked to make the scene safe and were in attendance for around 50 minutes"

According to the traffic report on Google there is around six miles of congestion on the anti-clockwise M60 due to the crash.
