Manchester United expected to make Antonio Conte contact after Tottenham exit threats

Manchester United have been told Antonio Conte would be 'perfect' to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent replacement after raising serious doubts over his Tottenham future.

Solskjaer was still in charge at Old Trafford when the north Londoners pulled off a coup to appoint Conte - despite muted suggestions he was being line-up for the United hot-seat.

As it played out, Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham - while Ralf Rangnick was appointed as interim manager when Solskjaer was sacked in November.

Fast forward three months and, while Rangnick has steadied the ship at United, former Chelsea and Inter manager Conte has thrown up question marks over his position.

A masterclass from England captain Harry Kane inspired Tottenham to an eye-catching win vs Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, but defeat to relegation-threatened Burnley followed last night.

Tottenham have lost four of their last five games to slip away from top-four contention, and Conte admitted post-match that things can't continue in the same way.

So does the Italian still have one eye on the United managerial role?
