Manchester United duo show true Ruud van Nistelrooy feelings after new job confirmed

Just over two weeks after leaving Manchester United, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been confirmed as the new Leicester City manager.

The United legend has signed a deal until 2027, and will take charge of his first game when West Ham visit the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. He will have a watching brief for the weekend’s clash against Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium.

His arrival at Leicester comes after he spent the first part of the season as assistant to Erik ten Hag at United. Van Nistelrooy then took interim charge of the team for four games following the sacking of Ten Hag.

In those games, United won three and drew just one. Ironically, two of the wins came against Leicester, a 5-2 victory in the Carabao Cup and a 3-0 win in the Premier League.

Leicester made the decision to make a managerial change on Sunday when they parted ways with Steve Cooper. Van Nistelrooy was quickly linked with the role, with confirmation of his appointment coming on Friday night.

United players were said to be impressed with the Dutchman during his time coaching at Old Trafford. And two members of the United squad have shown that with their activity on social media.

Both defender Harry Maguire and winger Amad have ‘liked’ Leicester’s official announcement of Van Nistelrooy’s appointment on social media. Maguire also has a link between the two clubs with the defender playing for Leicester for two seasons before joining United.
