'Manchester United Celebrated Win Over Leeds Like They Had Won The Title'

Ralf Rangnick's side made it two wins in a week in the six-goal thriller at Elland Road, which was the first time the fixture played in front of Leeds fans since the Yorkshire outfit returned to the Premier League.

Played on a waterlogged pitch and with a spicy atmosphere, United went 2-0 up in the first half through Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes but found themselves pegged back when Leeds struck twice a minute apart after half-time.

United players celebrated wildly with the away supporters after the second half goals and at the final whistle, the result meaning a great deal given the storied rivalry between the two clubs.

But Murphy, who enjoyed scoring against United during his time at Liverpool, believes there was a massive overreaction from the Red Devils.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "The thing I can say about United, this is how far they've come and it's a shame because they are a brilliant club - but they were celebrating that win at Leeds to cement the fourth position for the time being - like they had won the title.

"Watching it, ok - passion and emotion I get it but this is Man United. They're now in fourth. Well done boys, you've won at Leeds who have conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League.

"They should be beating Leeds and Brighton. They've spent the most in the Premier League and they're celebrating fourth position.

"The expectations have got to be higher."

United are four points clear of fifth-placed West Ham after the Irons drew 1-1 with Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsenal are always the same distance behind United, though they have three games in hand.
