Manchester United captain Harry Maguire told he has simple summer transfer decision to make

Harry Maguire needs to take any opportunity he can to leave Manchester United this summer, former Reds striker Andy Cole says.

The club captain has played 24 times this season but just 12 of those have been starts including just five in the Premier League. He featured for just two minutes in the Carabao Cup final triumph in February before lifting the trophy.

Since slipping out of United's starting XI under Erik ten Hag, the England defender has seen Luke Shaw rise above him in the centre-half pecking order with the manager preferring left-footed players in the left-sided centre-back role.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the 30-year-old is due to be put up for sale this summer alongside a trio of other players.

Maguire has found it tough to maintain form at United and came in for heavy criticism for his performances and leadership last season. Cole recognises that his displays for his country are of heightened quality but says he must think about a change of scenery at club level.

Speaking to King Casino Bonus, he said: “If Manchester United decide to sell Harry Maguire in the summer, he needs to take any option he can get.

“There is no doubt he'll have multiple clubs in for him. But Erik ten Hag will have to make the decision to sell Maguire or not, he'll make a decision based on the future of his defence.

“Maguire has found it hard to play for Manchester United but when he plays for England he's one of, if not the best centre-backs we have.
