Manchester United can do what Liverpool did in 2017 transfer window to lay title foundations

Manchester United's uncertainty over their proposed takeover could have implications in the transfer market.

Erik ten Hag wants to bolster his squad this summer which will be a necessity if they secure Champions League football. United need just one point from their final two Premier League matches to secure a top-four finish this season.

A number nine is at the top of their list of priorities. Harry Kane is Erik ten Hag's preferred target although there is apprehension about having to negotiate with Daniel Levy.

The England captain has just one year remaining on his contract but Spurs do not want to sell their talisman. Levy is known to drive a hard bargain and United toiled to broker deals for Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick in the past.

Victor Osimhen is an lternative and would again cost the best part, if not in excess, of £100million. Undoubtedly, United need to spend big in that area of the pitch but it does not leave much room for manoeuvre elsewhere in the squad.

With the takeover still dragging on in the background, raising funds and boxing clever in the transfer market is going to be essential for United. Ten Hag is open to signing a right-back and a central midfielder too and the club have held talks with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen Jeremie Frimpong.

One area of the transfer market that United could exploit is picking the best talent from the relegated Premier League sides. It's an approach that has served Liverpool well in the past.

Leicester City's precarious position at the bottom of the Premier League table is one to watch. The Foxes head into the final day of the season with their safety in the hands of others.
