Manchester United can benefit from Todd Boehly and Chelsea mistakes in $76m Mason Mount transfer

Last summer, American billionaire Todd Boehly completed the acquisition of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich after he was forced to sell the Stamford Bridge club.

In the year which has followed, Boehly has discovered the hard way how tough it can be to acclimatise to the fast nature of the Premier League. Initially, the owner put his weight behind Thomas Tuchel and declared he would not be looking to switch from the German.

By September, Tuchel was gone following a falling out which reportedly stemmed from him being too hands-on when it came to recruitment. Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter was quickly appointed with Boehly promising to build a long term project around the Englishman.

Potter was heavily back in January as the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and David Fofana were all purchased to try and turn Chelsea's season around. It didn't do the trick and the 48-year-old was sacked in April.

Frank Lampard was appointed on an interim basis but the damage had already been done. Chelsea finished the season 12th.

Mauricio Pochettino has since come in and perhaps Boehly has found the right fit for the club but the Blues are now cutting their bloated squad with a number of departures having been confirmed and more imminent. MEN Sport understands Mason Mount. has his heart set on joining Manchester United.

The Reds have submitted a £50m ($63m) bid for the midfielder but Chelsea are holding out for £60m ($76m). United have already agreed personal terms with the Englishman and a deal is seemingly there to be done.
