Manchester United can accelerate Cristiano Ronaldo succession plan with £100m Serie A striker

Manchester United are not having problems creating chances currently. But they are certainly having problems when it comes to converting those chances.

Cristiano Ronaldo's incredible inevitability when it comes to scoring goals has deserted him and it is harming the team's chances of securing the top-four finish they covet.

A report by Statsbomb stated that since Ralf Rangnick was appointed as interim manager of United, the team have created the most chances in the Premier League with 160, but only scored 20, which ranks them fifth in the Premier League.

In that time, Ronaldo has only scored three goals, with one of those being a penalty, which means there is serious room for improvement on his part.

This may be one of the reasons why Rangnick has his reservations about Ronaldo, with MEN Sport reporting that the German is unsure whether the striker should lead the line next season and therefore is recommending that United look to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

The striker should be able to attack space in behind and link up well with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga or whoever United decide to sign on the right flank if they make a move to further bolster that position.

Our colleagues at the Daily Star have claimed United are interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli but are not willing to meet the Italian club's £100m pricetag for the striker.

Napoli spent just shy of £70m on Oshimen in 2020 to sign him from Lille and, while injuries hindered his debut season with the Italian club, his second season has seen him go from strength to strength and he has been vital to Gli Azzurri's push for the Serie A title.

Osimhen has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 1182 minutes
