Manchester United blasted over 'ridiculous scenario' with Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United have been told that they are in a better position now after Ralf Rangnick has left the club.

The Reds confirmed that Rangnick would be leaving Old Trafford on Sunday to focus full-time on his role as manager of the Austrian national team. Rangnick had been set to take on a consultancy role at the Theatre of Dreams following his spell as interim manager of the club.

However, this was quashed at the weekend. United went on to hire Andy O'Boyle as deputy football director on Tuesday who will work closely alongside John Murtough.

According to Liverpool legend John Barnes, Rangnick will not be missed at the Reds following a disappointing spell in charge of the first team. He told BonusCodeBets: "Ralf Rangnick was never going to work out at Manchester United.

"The whole appointment was ridiculous from the start. Having a manager for the rest of the season, before moving into a consultancy role isn’t professional.

"It’s not the way to run a football club, having an ex-manager who would have been seen as a failure to then be above the new manager. The best thing for all parties was for Rangnick to leave, let the new manager come in and for it all to be about Erik Ten Hag, and nobody else.

"It was a ridiculous scenario to begin with, regardless of how it transpired. It looks shoddy but it’s the right decision."

United's attention must now turn to a busy summer ahead with plenty of ins and outs expected over the next couple of months before the season starts once more in earnest.
