Manchester United are 'too big' for Jadon Sancho amid transfer uncertainty

Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe is concerned that Jadon Sancho has found playing at Old Trafford 'too big' to deal with.

Sancho arrived at the Theatre of Dreams in 2021 with big expectations on his shoulders, having done so well for Borussia Dortmund. However, the winger flattered to deceive at United and has failed to have the impact his £73m demands.

Having spent time last season taking a break from football to deal with his mental health, Sancho was exiled by Erik ten Hag last September following a public fallout after the Arsenal defeat. The manager was asked why the winger was left out of the team that travelled to North London, with Ten Hag explaining that it was due to his training performances.

Sancho took issue with this call and claimed he had been made a 'scapegoat' by Ten Hag. In January, the 24-year-old was sent on loan to Dortmund, where he has had five goal contributions in 16 appearances.

Evaluating Sancho and looking ahead to the European Championships next month, Sharpe told Footy Accumulators he was unsure whether the forward could cope with the demands of England or United. "Sancho is another one of these players that, on his day, I loved watching," he explained.

"His footwork and his control over the ball are absolutely phenomenal. The only issue with Sancho is what's going on between his ears and whether he can do it on a big stage with big teams.

"I’m not sure whether Manchester United was a bit too big for him, and if he goes with England to the Euros is it going to be a bit too big an occasion for him? It’s whether you could trust that he would do it on that sort of stage.
