Erik ten Hag's dream Manchester United transfer plan scuppered as £56m asking price set

Manchester United may go into the 2024/25 season without European football after finishing eighth in the Premier League table. Despite defeating Brighton on the final day, wins for Chelsea and Newcastle mean they missed out.

They will qualify for the Europa League if they win the FA Cup next weekend but the odds are heavily backed against them. For many, plans for the transfer window are expected to be underway and Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces a hectic summer.

The uncertainty of Erik ten Hag's future could delay some deals but the areas for reinforcements are clear after a difficult season. Unfortunately, they face tough competition from some of their league rivals.

Here, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest Man United transfer news and offers a different perspective.

Jadon Sancho's preference to stay at Borussia Dortmund may be out of his control following reports that Man United will attempt to recoup at least 75 per cent of the £75m they paid for him (£56.2m).

According to The Sun, the 24-year-old has been informed that he would need to take a cut from a £275,000-per-week wage if Dortmund are going to be able to sign him permanently. Sancho has scored three goals and assisted another three for the German outfit in the second half of the season.

Having helped them reach the Champions League final and rediscovering the form that convinced United to buy him in 2021, the England international is likely to be keen on remaining in the Bundesliga amid his ongoing dispute with Ten Hag.
