Manchester United announce Martin Dubravka transfer and why they have signed him from Newcastle
Manchester United have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle.
Dubravka, 33, has joined United on a season-long loan, subject to registration, which includes the club having the option to make the transfer permanent. United have paid a £2million loan fee and they have an obligation to buy for £6m if the shot-stopper plays a fixed number of Premier League games. Dubravka spent four-and-a-half years with Newcastle and was their No.1 until this summer.
Newcastle signed Nick Pope from Burnley in June, which led Dubravka to consider his options elsewhere. Dubravka is first-choice goalkeeper for Slovakia's national side and he is expected to play in Europa League fixtures and domestic cup matches for United.

Dubravka will challenge David de Gea and he will join Tom Heaton as Erik ten Hag's first-team goalkeepers at Old Trafford.
Dubravka said: “To be joining Manchester United is a special moment in my career and I can’t wait to get started, and help the group achieve its ambitions. I am joining an excellent group of goalkeepers with lots of experience in the Premier League, and I know that we will push and support each other to keep our standards at the highest levels. The chance to work with David De Gea, alongside Tom Heaton, is one that I am relishing.
“I’d like to sincerely thank everyone at Newcastle United, and especially the fans, for many great experiences over the past four and a half years. I enjoyed every minute of my time there and made amazing memories to look back on. My focus is now on helping Manchester United, and we’ll see what the future holds after I have given my all this season.
