Manchester United and Man City both hit hard in Premier League table without VAR

Manchester City would see their Premier League title lead cut as Manchester United slip outside the Champions League places if VAR was not used this season.

A study by ESPN shows that both United and City have gained just one point through interventions by the video assistant.

But, Pep Guardiola's side would have seen their lead at the summit decreased by two points, with Liverpool moving to within seven of the reigning champions as opposed to the current nine-point breathing space between the two North West sides.

The table without VAR, correct as of February 4, sees Arsenal sneak into the top four with United and West Ham slipping down a place, all level on 37 points.

Frank Lampard's Everton side would be the big winners if the technology wouldn't be in place in the English top flight with the Toffees five places higher, which meant Rafael Benitez could well still be in a job at Goodison Park.

Newcastle United, going into the business end of the season, would have sat three points clear of the relegation zone with Norwich, Burnley and Watford all in the bottom three.
