Manchester United and Chelsea reach Jadon Sancho agreement after dramatic deadline day talks

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has officially joined Chelsea on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy included in the deal after a dramatic day of talks.

Chelsea were locked in talks with United to sign Sancho throughout Friday and an agreement has finally been struck that will see the 23-year-old move to Stamford Bridge.

A deal sheet was submitted by United and Chelsea before the 11pm transfer window deadline, which meant they had a two-hour extension to complete the transfer.

Sancho's loan move from United to Chelsea will be made permanent for a fee rising to £25m when his season-long loan concludes in June 2025.

United were open to a sale of Sancho all summer, despite Erik ten Hag welcoming him back into the squad and insisting a line had been drawn under their dispute last season.

When Ten Hag was asked if Sancho would stay at United during his press conference on Friday afternoon, he said: "As I know, yeah. He is a player in our squad and we are happy with him.

"We need a good squad, we need depth in the squad, we have to play many games until January, the new format of Europe. After the break we will play every third day so we absolutely need options."

Juventus had expressed interest in Sancho and United discussed a potential swap deal with Chelsea that would have involved Raheem Sterling.

United have only seen fleeting glimpses of Sancho's talent since he signed for the club for £72.9million in 2021 and his contribution of 12 goals in 83 appearances is poor.

Sancho scored against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in his first season with United.
