Manchester United and Arsenal compete for transfer Aston Villa snubbed

Manchester United and Arsenal are both reportedly interested in signing Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa, who has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa.

In January, it was claimed that Sosa was on Villa's radar as Steven Gerrard wanted to improve his options at left-back and give Matt Targett a run for his money to keep his starting spot in the team. But Villa opted to sign former Everton defender Lucas Digne instead in a deal worth £25million.

The Frenchman has impressed during his first 14 appearances in claret and blue, registering three assists in that time. Villa boss Gerrard claimed that when Digne became available for transfer - following a dispute with former Goodison Park manager Rafael Benitez - it was a situation the club had to take advantage of.

The likes of Sosa and Scotland International Aaron Hickey were also strongly linked in January, but Villa elected to trust experience over potential with the capture of Digne. Though, Croatia star Sosa is now reportedly attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Premier League.

German outlet Focus.de claim that Stuttgart defender Sosa has caught Man Utd's eye ahead of the summer and have joined Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham in pursuit of the defender, who could cost around £20million. New boss Erik ten Hag will look to improve in the full-back department this summer as Alex Telles has endured a tough campaign and despite the presence of Luke Shaw, recruiting Sosa could prove to be an astute piece of business.

Sosa, who is left-footed, has made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, directly contributing to nine goals from a wing-back position. He has scored one goal and made eight assists in the German top-flight this term.
