Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford can better Robin van Persie feat vs Aston Villa

Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford was on target once again on Thursday night as the Reds drew with top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The England international grabbed his 29th goal of the campaign in all competitions to put United 2-0 up against Spurs. However, the London outfit scored twice in the second half to level proceedings. The result saw Erik ten Hag's side drop below Newcastle in the Premier League table, albeit with a game in hand over Eddie Howe's men.

Rashford has been in the best goalscoring form of this career this term, with his performances after the World Cup particularly helping him to climb the goalscoring charts. Across Europe's top-five leagues, only Manchester City ace Erling Haaland (49) and Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe (34) have scored more goals than the 25-year-old this season.

The academy graduate - who has also registered 11 assists - is now closing in on the 30-goal mark, which would make him the first United player since Robin van Persie in 2012/13 to score that many goals in a season. The former Netherlands international played a vital role in the Reds winning the league title in Sir Alex Ferguson's final campaign at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bruno Fernandes both went close to matching Van Persie's goal tally, with the Swedish striker and Portuguese ace each scoring 28 times in the 2016/17 season and 2020/21 campaign respectively.
