Manchester’s annual walk for women returns - here’s what you need to know
A walk dedicated to women is returning to Manchester to celebrate all the wonderful ladies in our lives. To celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8), the people of Manchester are encouraged to take part in this year’s annual Walk for Women.
The walk, which takes place on Saturday, March 9, is an opportunity to come together with family and friends, colleagues - and strangers too - to share our passion for equality and creating opportunities for women in Manchester.
Marchers are invited to bring along fun, safe, and noisy instruments to bang and clang, or make the most of their voice along with chants.

Organised by Manchester City Council, the free event welcomes all to participate including those who would like to come solo or with a big group.
Those interested are asked to meet at 12 noon on Mount Street behind Central Library (by the John Cassidy 'Ardrift' statue). The walk will make its way along Mount Street and through Albert Square to Brazennose Street, before turning right into Deansgate and continuing all the way to Manchester Cathedral.
There are rest stops along the way and dropped curbs for wheelchair access. It’s recommended to bring a water bottle with you if you’re not a regular walker.
The walk is predicted to end at roughly 2.30pm and some roads will be closed, and parking suspensions in place for the duration.
Although it is not necessary to register to attend, it is advised you register online here.
