Manchester dubbed one of the 'sexiest accents' in the world – but people spot issue

A quirky yet fascinating aspect of our world is the sheer variety of accents that can be found just by traveling short distances in any direction.

Every major city around the globe boasts its own unique linguistic flair, shaped by centuries of evolving cultures and populations.

Clearly, these accents are distinct, and individuals often have their preferred ones that they enjoy hearing the most. And a man has gone viral by sharing his favourite picks on social media.

Known simply as Jam, he used platform X to broadcast his ranking of the 'sexiest accents' globally, garnering attention on Facebook as well. Topping Jam's list was the Yorkshire accent, with Manchester securing the runner-up spot. These were both followed by London, Geordie, Caribbean, and Australian.

Scottish, New York, 'London Posh', New Zealand, and Scouse completed his top selections on the list. On the flip side, Jam pinpointed the 'lowest tier' of accents, citing American, Birmingham, Welsh, and Bristolian.

The post sparked widespread online debate, with numerous people in disbelief over one glaring omission in the list– the Irish accent. One person asked: "What happened to Irish?" While another added: "How is Irish not on there?" A third chimed in: "Lies, Irish is the best." While a fourth simply said: "What is this nonsense?"

The list follows on from Tinder also sharing its research in to the UK's '10 sexiest accents' last December, with Irish taking the top spot in the poll. This was followed Scottish, Essex, Yorkshire and Welsh accents.
